Barraca (Les Palmeres): the 1965 Club That Still Books Techno
· Updated:
Yes, Barraca is still open: the club that opened in the summer of 1965 in Les Palmeres, in the municipality of Sueca (Valencia province, Spain), started its 2026-27 season on 19 September and books techno and house mainly on Saturdays until spring.

Valenciabonita calls Barraca the pioneer of clubbing in the province. Its story is in the name: it started as a typical Valencian barraca, a thatched farmhouse, then became a shop, then a flamenco tablao and finally a club, growing with marquees and new dancefloors until it had four. Its oldest room was refurbished in 2007. Xceed dates the opening to the summer of 1965 and explains that it took off in the mid-1980s with the rise of electronic music, until it became one of the key names of the Ruta del Bakalao. The club's Instagram bio still reads 'El sonido de Valencia, Est. 1965'.
If you've seen it searched as 'Barraca abandoned', it isn't. Several clubs of that era did close, such as The Face, Puzzle or ACTV, but Barraca keeps a full season, and Chocolate, a few steps away, still holds one-off parties.

The season: autumn to spring
Barraca works in reverse to the beach clubs: it opens when summer ends. On 10 September 2026 the club announced the start of the season with a comeback date of Saturday 19 September, and its agenda already runs into 2027. An old Xceed blog post explained that in summer it took its parties to other venues. Discoruta says it opens 'mainly on Saturdays', with special dates starting in the afternoon.

Four rooms
Xceed lists four rooms: Circo, Barraca (the old room, with its own terrace), Show Room and Terraza. An older Xceed article gave Circo around 1,000 to 1,200 people and Show Room about 300; treat those figures as a guide. The music is techno and house, and the dress code, according to Discoruta, is casual. Entry is 18+.
Nights here are long. A regular session runs from 23:59 to 07:30, and Discoruta's listings include special dates from 17:00 to 08:00 or from 17:30 to 06:30, such as the Halloween party on 31 October, which starts at 17:00. The club also sells its own t-shirts, made with local artists.
Where it is and how to get there
Barraca is in Les Palmeres, a coastal area of Sueca, near the beach and outside the Valencia metropolitan area. Guides don't agree on the exact street address, so search for 'Barraca, Les Palmeres, Sueca' on the map. Without a car, Discoruta's route is the C1 commuter train from Estació del Nord to Sueca, then the local L4 bus to Les Palmeres; it admits it's not the easiest trip from the city. The club also promotes its own bus service on Instagram for its nights, and the VIP tables for five include a bottle and private parking. Organise the way back before you go: sessions finish at dawn.
What a night costs
For Vértigo on 24 October 2026, the first tickets (€10 without a drink, €15 with one) had sold out by 20 October, and the next tier was €12 without a drink or €17 with one. Group tickets started at €9 per person. Prices change with each party, so ask us for yours.
