Pubs and Music Bars in Valencia: Where to Drink Before the Club

· Updated:

Valencia, Spain's pubs and music bars are spread across neighbourhoods rather than on one strip: El Carmen for live music and rock, Ruzafa for DJ bars, Cánovas and Gran Vía for cocktails, and Plaza Honduras and Plaza del Cedro for students. Under the 2026 hours rules, pubs can stay open until 03:30.

This guide is about the places to have a drink with music before (or instead of) the club. We only include bars with recent activity on their own accounts in October 2026, and where we quote hours from a directory we say so, because they can be out of date. The clubs mentioned link to their pages; the bars don't have one with us.

El Carmen and Ciutat Vella: live music and rock

The old town has no big clubs, but it's where the bars with the most character are. Radio City, on Calle Santa Teresa 19, opens every day with concerts, jam sessions, flamenco and DJs; in August 2026 it ran free DJ nights from the 6th to the 31st. A few streets away, Peter Rock Club is a rock bar and small concert venue with karaoke and DJ sessions; a directory places it on Calle Quart 26. Calle Quart is also where travel guides place most of the city's LGBT bars. If you want to dance after, the closest club is PROYECTO/ on Calle de la Sang 9, a step from Plaza del Ayuntamiento, home of the Friday techno and EBM party Club Gordo, with a free guest list until 00:30.

Bars with live music

If you'd rather have a band than a DJ, Valencia has several small concert venues that turn into clubs late on: Matisse Club, around Benimaclet and Algirós, which has been doing live music since 1996, with alternative Thursdays and concerts and club nights on Fridays and Saturdays; Loco Club, on Calle Erudito Orellana 12, for rock, with gigs at 20:30; and 16 Toneladas, by the Torres de Quart, for rock, punk and soul. Our concert venues guide covers them in detail.

How late do pubs stay open?

The Comunitat Valenciana's 2026 hours order (Orden 3/2025, DOGV of 22 December 2025) sets three different limits. Pubs and karaoke bars can open from 12:00 to 03:30 in municipalities of more than 50,000 inhabitants, which includes Valencia, and the city council can extend that to 04:00. Ordinary bars and restaurants close at 01:30. Clubs and dance halls can stay open until 07:30. That's why the usual route is bar first, pub until 03:30 and club after. The order is renewed every December.
